About the Expert

Dr Chrissie Robertson is a Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years’ experience of working in adult mental health services. She worked in the NHS for many years as well as in the independent sector and private practice.

While working in the NHS she was involved in service development, developing Primary Care Mental Health Services in rural Wales, as well as providing assessment and therapy in her various clinical roles. She has worked across different levels and types of services including primary care, substance misuse services, community mental health teams and forensic mental health. Within the private sector, she has been instrumental in setting up psychology services within newly established low secure units, as well as working for 5 years in low secure services in the NHS. Her interest in complex mental health difficulties has led her to establish effective therapeutic models of working with such clients who may experience such issues as PTSD, complex PTSD, personality disorder, psychosis, depression and anxiety.

Prior to her clinical training Dr Robertson also worked as a Researcher in the area of social inclusion and the needs of young people leaving care. She completed a diploma in Research Methodology and has a keen interest in how research can inform both mental health assessment and treatment.

Dr Robertson currently works in private practice, providing both psychotherapy and medico-legal assessment. For the past 10 years she has been providing psychological assessments for personal injury cases as well as assessing the impact of childhood trauma and later life traumatic events in criminal injuries cases.

Outside of work, Dr Robertson enjoys various creative hobbies including oil painting, visual journaling and gardening.
