The aim of joint opinion is to help the court clarify two experts opinion in terms of level of agreement and disagreement. Following a publication currently in submission (Koch & Elson ,2010), a survey is currently being planned to investigate what views experts have about producing a joint opinion. Approximately 75 experts are being asked to produce their opinion about the process and outcome of contacting their ‘opposite number’ in any particular case with the objective of producing a joint opinion. Structured and unstructured questions will enable the author to clarify best practice and highlight frequent problems. The results will be published in late 2010/early 2011.
